Chapter 51

The young man was named Zhang Wenxue, a name that sounded quite poetic and artistic. However, his personality was completely different from his name. He was bold, unrestrained, and even a bit arrogant.

Watching Pei Yuhuai’s figure gradually disappear into the distance, Zhang Wenxue pondered his current situation. His circumstances were already quite dire, and he figured they couldn’t get much worse. With that thought in mind, Zhang Wenxue hesitated only briefly before quickly catching up to Pei Yuhuai.

“Alright, I can follow you from now on,” he said, implying that he wanted an ability.

Pei Yuhuai continued walking as he asked, “Do you have a specific ability in mind?”

Zhang Wenxue looked a bit confused and replied, “Not really, I haven’t thought about it much.” His response was mainly due to his lack of trust in Pei Yuhuai. He felt that Pei Yuhuai might be exaggerating, so he hadn’t seriously considered it.

Pei Yuhuai wasn’t offended. If he were in Zhang Wenxue’s shoes, he probably wouldn’t believe it either. After all, his claims were extraordinary, and only those who had experienced the game firsthand would understand the difference in perspective.

Seeing that Zhang Wenxue hadn’t decided, Pei Yuhuai took the initiative and gave him a Lightning-based ability. He handed over an Ability Slot and a Lightning-based Ability, then instructed Zhang Wenxue to try using it.

From Zhang Wenxue’s perspective, Pei Yuhuai had been walking the entire time and hadn’t done anything. Yet, he was now being told that he had an ability? Skeptical, Zhang Wenxue stopped and tried it out, feeling a bit foolish. But when he actually managed to unleash the Lightning-based Ability, he was utterly shocked.

“Wait, buddy, you… you really gave me an ability?” he exclaimed.

Pei Yuhuai didn’t answer, as he found the question rather silly. However, out of politeness and good manners, he nodded faintly.

Zhang Wenxue was no longer calm. He quickly caught up to Pei Yuhuai and used the ability a couple more times in front of him. After confirming that the ability was indeed his and that he could feel it within his body, he finally remembered to thank Pei Yuhuai.

“Thanks, buddy. I thought you were just bluffing earlier. My attitude wasn’t great, and I apologize for that.”

Pei Yuhuai simply replied, “It’s fine.”

“Then from now on, I’m your subordinate, Boss. Where are we going next? What are we going to do?”

Zhang Wenxue adapted quickly. He was a smart person and didn’t ask Pei Yuhuai how he had given him the ability in a town filled with surveillance cameras.

Seeing that Zhang Wenxue was catching on, Pei Yuhuai smiled and explained what they were going to do next.

“I’m going to kill all the Nobles and Mutants here.”

“If you kill them all, the Nobles from the Inner City and the town’s organizers won’t let you off the hook.”

Pei Yuhuai shook his head indifferently. “Even if I don’t come here, they won’t let me go.”

At this point, Pei Yuhuai and the Nobles were irreconcilable. Even if Pei Yuhuai didn’t attack this town, the Nobles from the Inner City would still ambush his town. Coincidentally, the Game System had just issued a mission to occupy this place, making it a necessity for Pei Yuhuai to take it down.

Soon, the townsfolk of Liuxiang Town also became aware of Pei Yuhuai. They didn’t know him personally, but many of their live streams were filled with Nobles discussing him. Some Nobles even issued tasks to the townsfolk, instructing them to pretend to seek help from Pei Yuhuai and then kill him when they got close. Others tasked the weak—women, the elderly, or children—to feign helplessness and try to deceive Pei Yuhuai into giving them abilities.

As the townsfolk watched the chaotic barrage of comments, some chose to follow the Nobles’ orders, while others began to entertain other ideas.

A young girl pretended to go out on a task, but when she met Pei Yuhuai, she revealed the Nobles’ conspiracy. Though young, she was very clever. She wasn’t sure if the Nobles’ words were true, but she was certain of one thing: they were afraid of Pei Yuhuai. Despite having weapons and Mutants for protection, they didn’t dare confront him directly. Instead, they resorted to using the Lower Class People to do their dirty work.

What did that mean? It meant that even the Nobles and Mutants didn’t dare face him head-on. They were afraid of someone they couldn’t defeat, yet they tried to use small favors to manipulate the unarmed Lower Class People into acting as their pawns.

The girl mustered her courage and brought these secrets to Pei Yuhuai. After hearing her story, Pei Yuhuai instructed Zhang Wenxue to take her under his protection. She was a promising child, and if she could grow up safely, she would undoubtedly become someone remarkable.

At the moment, Pei Yuhuai didn’t have any more Ability Slots, so he couldn’t give her an ability right away. However, he decided to take her to Scarlet Town and give her an ability later.

Zhang Wenxue took the girl under his wing, and just as she had predicted, townsfolk soon came looking for Pei Yuhuai. Since Pei Yuhuai had just used a control ability, only a few Nobles were watching, so not many knew about the girl’s betrayal. Moreover, the Nobles didn’t care about the lives of the Lower Class People. Even if someone noticed the girl’s betrayal, they wouldn’t stop those who were sent to their deaths.

In this situation, many townsfolk who came with the intention of killing Pei Yuhuai were swiftly eliminated by him as soon as they tried to feign helplessness.

Seeing this, Zhang Wenxue couldn’t help but ask, “You don’t know if they’re here to kill you or genuinely seeking help. Aren’t you worried you might accidentally kill the wrong people?”

Pei Yuhuai explained, “I won’t make a mistake. My eyes can detect whether they have malicious intent toward me.”

If they were sent by the Nobles to kill Pei Yuhuai, their names would appear red when he saw them. If they were genuinely seeking help, like the girl, their names would appear green. It was easy to distinguish between the two.

Pei Yuhuai then spent the next half hour clearing out the Guardians and Nobles in the town, along with any Lower Class People who tried to kill him. During this time, Zhang Wenxue destroyed any surveillance cameras they came across. He truly despised them and would smash them with a stick whenever he saw one. The girl, inspired by his actions, also found a weapon and joined in. She never imagined she’d one day be able to destroy these things so openly and without fear. For them, this process was both cathartic and relieving.

Once the Nobles and Guardians in the town were eliminated, Pei Yuhuai’s mission was complete. To his surprise, the task was settled almost immediately. As soon as it was done, the system notified him of its completion.

Pei Yuhuai claimed the rewards, which included an Ability Slot and a flying vehicle. After examining the flying vehicle, he thought it could be used to transport the townsfolk to Scarlet Town. Although he had taken over the town, holding onto it would be challenging, especially since it was located deep within the Inner City. If he wanted to defend it, he’d have to stay there permanently. However, his “home base” wasn’t fully developed yet, so he decided to move everyone to Scarlet Town first. Once his base was stronger and capable of facing the Nobles of the Inner City, they could return to develop this town further.

It seemed the system had the same idea, as it provided him with the flying vehicle. Pei Yuhuai deployed the vehicle and, together with Zhang Wenxue, figured out how to operate it. The controls were simple and straightforward, and after a couple of tries, Pei Yuhuai got the hang of it. Zhang Wenxue also tried piloting it, and Pei Yuhuai decided to take the girl and Zhang Wenxue back first. Once Zhang Wenxue became familiar with the route between Liuxiang Town and Scarlet Town, he could shuttle the townsfolk back and forth.

Pei Yuhuai flew back to Scarlet Town with Zhang Wenxue and the girl. Upon their return, they handed the girl over to the people of Scarlet Town. Then, Pei Yuhuai and Zhang Wenxue headed back to Liuxiang Town. On the way, they were pursued by combat aircraft from the Inner City. The planes bombarded them relentlessly, but due to the significant difference in the capabilities of the two vehicles, Pei Yuhuai and Zhang Wenxue weren’t in much danger.

When they returned to Liuxiang Town, the town’s organizers had already arrived. This time, they came in full force, completely different from their previous encounter. They brought a large number of people, including many Mutants.

Seeing this, Zhang Wenxue grew anxious. His ability level was still low, and facing so many enemies made him nervous.
